CONSENT BY PARENT OR CARER:   I consent to my child playing junior basketball with the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Basketball Club.  I am aware that the Club does not carry individual player insurance but that players are covered by sports insurance taken out by Basketball ACT for registered players when at authorised team training and competition games.

I accept that neither the Club nor any of its officers will be liable for any injury sustained by my child while participating in the activities of the Club. I authorise any officer of the Club to seek medical assistance or treatment for my child in event of injury and agree to pay any fees or expenses incurred.  I agree that the Club officers are not responsible for any supervision or custody of my child outside the period during which they are participating in a competition game, training or trial session organised by the Club.

I accept that officers of the Club include all Club coaches and managers, persons acting temporarily in those capacities and persons elected to the Club committee or appointed by it to a position of responsibility.

I acknowledge that by acceptance by the Club of my child’s registration incurs a liability to the Club for the fees specified for the team(s) in which the child is placed.  I understand that the Club will only consider refunds in exceptional circumstances, such as where it is unable to offer a place in a team.  [Refer to the Club Refund Policy].

I understand and accept that only players who are financial can take the court.

I understand that the Club reserves the right to pursue outstanding fees, even when a player is no longer a member of the club, and that no transfers will be signed while there is money outstanding.

I understand that authorised members of the Club may photograph or videotape games or training sessions.  These are taken strictly for coaching purposes and the club won’t share them publicly or on social media without explicit permission of the parents of those players shown.  I also understand that photos may be shared on the club’s Facebook page etc, but judiciously and appropriately (e.g., photo of team and coach after a grand final, individual photo of club player in representative context, etc).  I agree to notify the Club in writing if there are legal reasons for my child not being photographed or videotaped.

PARENT CODE OF BEHAVIOUR:

I will abide by the club’s “Parent Code of Behaviour” of:

  1. Any communication about concerns needs to recognise that our coaches, managers and committee are volunteers and so must be respectful, appropriate and constructive.  In the first instance, issues should be raised with the team coach but if the concerns aren’t (or can’t be) addressed by the coach, you should contact our complaints officer (whose details are available on our web-site). Parents, coaches and managers should not raise club-related issues with Basketball ACT directly. While we understand the desire for direct communication, it makes it difficult for the club to track and support conversations of which we have no knowledge.

  1. Please don’t criticise coaches, committee members or officials behind their backs – people do their best and it’s a tough job running a club. If you’d like to improve our Club, then please join the Committee and be part of the solution.

  1. I understand and accept that parents are required to undertake score bench duties during the season and I will take my turn.

  1. I will ensure that my child abides by the club’s player Code of Behaviour and I will also abide by the same code.

PLAYER CODE OF BEHAVIOUR:

  1. Play by the rules
  2. Never argue with an official.  If you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager approach the official during a break or after the competition.
  3. Control your temper.  Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sport.
  4. Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team.  Your team’s performance will benefit, so will you.
  5. Be a good sport.  Applaud all good plays whether they be your team or the opposition.
  6. Treat players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player.
  7. Co-operate with your coach, team-mates and opponents.  Without them there would be no competition.
  8. Play for the fun of it, and not just to please parents and coaches.
