TSC Code of Behaviour Policy
PARENT CODE OF BEHAVIOUR:
I will abide by the club’s “Parent Code of Behaviour” by:
- Being a positive role model for the club. Being aware of how I act and what I say about our club, the coaches, managers and committee. Bringing my concerns to the club to be addressed.
- Always communicating with our club coaches, managers and committee in a respectful, appropriate and constructive manner.
- Supporting the club coaches and managers and respecting their decisions. Not instructing my child, or any other child, in training or games or approaching the players’ bench during games.
- Respecting the referees and court officials. Not arguing with referees or court officials. Accept decisions of all referees as being fair and called to the best of their ability. Do not raise issues of disagreement publicly.
- Supporting my child to enjoy and have fun playing basketball. Praising, encouraging and supporting my child to make their own decisions in games and training on the direction of their coach. I will not pressure my child about winning or losing.
- Undertaking my turn at score bench duties during the season and in doing so, remaining impartial and not disagreeing with the referees.
- Not criticising opposing team members or supporters by word or gesture.
- Avoiding the use of derogatory language based on gender, race or impairment and support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
- Ensuring that my child understands and abides by the club’s Player Code of Behaviour.
SPECTATORS CODE OF CONDUCT:
I will abide by the club’s “Parent Code of Behaviour” by:
- Remembering children play sport for fun. They are not playing for the entertainment of spectators. They are not miniature professionals
- Applauding good performances from each team. Congratulate all players regardless of the outcome
- Respecting the referee’s decision.
- Never ridiculing or scolding a child for making a mistake during competition.
- Be positive.Condemning the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches or players.Showing respect for your team’s opponents, without them, there would be no game.Encouraging players to obey the rules and decisions of officials.Demonstrating appropriate social behavior by not using foul language, harassing players, coaches or officials.Avoiding use of derogatory language based on gender, race or impairment.
- Realising that there are consequences for breaches of these Codes of Conduct, some of which are severe.
PLAYER CODE OF BEHAVIOUR:
I will represent the club’s values when taking the court by:
1. Playing by the rules.
2. Treating players in my team, my club and on the opposition, as I would like to be treated. Not interfering with, bullying or taking unfair advantage of another player.
3. Co-operating with my coach, team mates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition.
4. Never arguing with a referee or court official. If I disagree with a decision, I will speak to my coach or manager instead.
5. Controlling my temper. Abusing officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable in any sport.
6. Not using derogatory language based on gender, race or impairment. No “trash talking” of opponents.
6. Being a good sport. Applauding all good plays whether by my team or the opposition.
7. Working equally hard for myself and my team. The team’s performance will benefit and so will mine.
8. Playing for the fun of it, not just to please parents or coaches or just to win. Be prepared to lose sometimes. Everyone wins and loses at some point. Be a fair winner and good loser.

10. Respecting my coach by turning up to games and training on time. I will not let my coach or team down by missing training or games unless it is absolutely necessary and even then, I will let my coach know as soon as possible when I can’t make it.
APPROPRIATE SOCIAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA BEHAVIOUR (FOR ALL PEOPLE ASSOCIATED WITH TSC BASKETBALL CLUB)
- I will not disparage or undermine my coach, officials or team mates behind their back and NEVER on social media. If I have a criticism, I’ll make it respectfully and constructively and through the correct channels.
- I will not create or contribute to team toxicity. If there is a problem, I’ll report it through the right channels and if I cant say something nice, I wont say anything at all.
